I am back after many weeks…finally! Work started piling up and stuff that had to be done were just not being finished. So, I decided to take a break and just focus on my school work first before coming back to write. But that’s enough of that. Let’s get into what this post is about: Discover Oman 2018!
Discover Oman? What is it?
Discover Oman is an annual trip that happens at my school where students get a week off school to explore the country of Oman. Middle and high-schoolers actually camp for four days and three nights depending on the trip they choose. Happily for me, I got another trip for this year that does not involve camping. I was so relieved to get my first choice. I am not the camping type and its not only just about, “Ew bugs”. Deeply in my heart, I loathe dirtiness and not being able to be extra clean. And on top of that praying will become hard to do cleanly.
The trip I got to go on was a new one called “Oman in Focus”, a mash-up of learning about Oman and learning about photography. It was a very interesting week. I got to learn more about the settings of a camera during it too. Here is a day by day summary of the trip and outfits of the day with some of my favorite shots!

The first day was learning about photography, portraits, and quick Grand Mosque visit! The whole first day – I am not kidding – was just going through a long presentation about cameras and photography. And not to be me, I was almost dozing off…It was honestly too long and I couldn’t keep my eyes open. But aside from that, it was at times helpful. That was three hours of just sitting down on the couches and listening. Yup.
At some point in the day, we went up to the mountains and took some pictures there to practice our new knowledge about cameras and photography on landscapes. And here are some shots from there!
The second thing on the agenda was portrait time. This was probably my most favorite schedule for the whole week. My friends and I took great pictures of each other with the studio lightings and even dressed ourselves up to look like a whole 80s girl group! We had glasses on, lipstick, costumes, all the fun stuff.
Lastly, we made a quick trip to the Grand Mosque that is a few minutes away from our school and took some sunset pictures there. Check some of the pictures that were taken during the sunset here!
Outfit of the Day 1
For the first half of the day, I was wearing a tracksuit just because it was a more chill schedule during the morning. And also knowing that we would have to go up the mountains and walk around in sand, I knew a skirt would not be good to fight against the winds up there. (Didn’t take full outfit pictures with it on as I am not comfortable with pants).
I was wearing an all red look with a fun jacket that had tassels flowing down the back and along the arms. To complete the outfit, I used my iconic shiny, silver cat ears and some sunglasses to give the look a more chic look!
Day 2 was the day we finally got out on the road to travel faraway to take more diverse pictures. We walked around an abandoned town up in the mountains and took some pictures. It was quite sunny that day and about an hour in our exploration, two men started following us and taking pictures of the girls so we decided it was time to take off and leave before things became more uncomfortable.
Funny story is one of my friends yelled at them for following the group of kids who went up the buildings. Isn’t she so brave.
Next, we visited a souq where we took some street pictures of alleyways and things of that nature. It was a short trip to the souq because it was rather small and we didn’t want to lose anyone of course.
For lunch that day, we went to a nearby mall and ate in the food court! We got to order anything we would like and I decided some noodles and a green milk tea would be what I ate. It was delicious and so our journey back to school was filled with sleep.
Outfit of the Day 2
Because I knew we would be walking around a lot for this day, I decided to go out of my comfort zone and wore some really baggy, skirt-like pants. This day’s color was orange and I think it really was a good outfit, if I say so myself. I paired it with my favorite light-washed, denim jacket from Zara that I’ve worn before and that was it! Simple but bold.
There was nothing much to this day. We stayed in the school throughout the day and learned how to improve our pictures using Photoshop. We experimented with the different settings and tools on Photoshop that could be useful one day if we ever wanted to edit photos professionally.
Oh, I almost forgot that we did go out to take pictures in the evening to get cool night photography that we learned how to do that day. Check out the cool night photography by clicking here!
Outfit of the Day 3
This outfit was just put together quickly in the morning because I knew today would be a rather chill day. I put on my overalls that is a deep blue color and to bring some brightness to the outfit, I put on a yellow hijab and a white denim jacket!
The last day was probably my favorite day of the week. For the beginning of the day, we spent it in the Grand Mosque – this time, actually going inside it – to take pictures and portraits. And of course, my friends and I being us, we dressed nicely for the day in hopes we would all take good pictures of each other. Which we did.
We spent a good one hour, two hour at the Mosque. But at some point, the mosque became very crowded with tourists and the sun became brighter so of course, we all decided we weren’t up for another hour. After the day in the mosque, it was free time because this was our last day and there wasn’t many things to do left. We held a little photography presentation and the hours following that until the 3:30 bus, we had free time to edit, take pictures, etc.
Outfit of the Day 4
We’re bringing back the red for the last day. I just got a new jacket that is this suede material and kind of biker-girl style. I have always wanted to find this and what better day to wear the jacket? Like usual, making the jacket the centerpiece of my outfit, I put on my black boots, cat ears, and one of my favorite skirts.
